Why Is Your AC Leaking Water? 6 Causes & How to Fix It

1. A blocked condensate drain line (most common)

2. A frozen coil that's melting

If ice forms on the indoor coil and then melts, it floods past the drain pan. The freezing is usually caused by low refrigerant or restricted airflow. Fix: switch the AC to fan-only to melt the ice, clean the filter, and have the refrigerant level checked.

3. A dirty air filter

A clogged filter starves the coil of airflow, which makes it freeze and then drip. Fix: clean or replace the filter; if leaks continue, book a deep AC clean.

4. A cracked or rusted drain pan

The pan under the coil catches condensation. On older units it cracks or rusts through and lets water escape. Fix: the pan needs replacing — a straightforward technician job.

5. Poor installation or drain slope

If the indoor unit isn't level, or the drain line runs uphill, water won't flow out properly. Fix: the unit or drain line is re-levelled so it drains by gravity.

6. Very high humidity overwhelming the system

On humid coastal days the unit produces more condensate than a partly-blocked drain can handle. Fix: clearing and upsizing drainage, plus regular maintenance, keeps up with UAE humidity.
